GFX’s operations team is focused on a greener and sustainable future for its manufacturing facility. Over the past 24 months GFX has made continuous improvements to reduce chemical usage and chemical VOM content in its Grayslake facility. GFX has successfully eliminated all HAP (hazardous air pollutants) content from all chemicals, as well as reduced its overall VOM emissions by 15% in 2009. The reduction is due to procedural changes that reduce the overall amount of chemical used in the manufacturing process as well as reformulation of certain chemical products to make them more environmentally friendly.

GFX International recently completed a major energy savings and pollution reduction project at their Grayslake headquarters. GFX replaced all the existing fluorescent lighting fixtures (lamps and ballasts) in their 80,000 ft2 manufacturing area with high efficiency lamps with electronic ballasts. The lighting conversion took place over a two-week period and was contracted through Blue Star Energy Services. It is estimated this project will reduce GFX’s energy consumption by 415,447kWh, reducing 289 tonnes CO2, 1,072 lbs. SO2, and 4063 lbs. NOx of greenhouse gases on an annually basis. These savings are equivalent to removing 52 cars from the road for one year or 7420 trees absorbing pollution for 10 years annually. All replaced lamps and ballasts were recycled through EverLights Recycling Services in Chicago.
